The Prime Minister launched the projects from Lachit Ghat in Guwahati, underlining the Centre’s focus on strengthening academic excellence and technological capacity in the northeastern states.
IIM Guwahati Becomes 22nd IIM in India
The newly established IIM Guwahati becomes the second Indian Institute of Management in the Northeast after IIM Shillong, and the 22nd IIM in the country. The Union Cabinet had approved its establishment last year to expand access to premier management education in the region.
Officials stated that the institute is expected to significantly enhance opportunities for management studies and entrepreneurship development in Assam and neighboring states.
“The establishment of IIM Guwahati will strengthen the academic ecosystem and empower youth in the Northeast with world-class management education,” officials said.
National Data Centre to Serve Entire Northeast
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the National Data Centre at Amingaon, located in Kamrup district of Assam. The high-tech facility, built with a total sanctioned load of 8.5 MW and an average rack capacity of 10 kW per rack, will host mission-critical applications of various government departments.
The centre will also function as a disaster recovery hub for other National Data Centres across India, enhancing data security and digital governance infrastructure in the region.
225 Electric Buses Flagged Off Under PM-eBus Sewa
In addition to the infrastructure projects, the Prime Minister flagged off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme. Of these, 100 buses will operate in Guwahati, 50 each in Nagpur and Bhavnagar, and 25 in Chandigarh, promoting sustainable and eco-friendly urban mobility.
The initiatives collectively signal a major expansion of education, digital infrastructure, and green transport in the Northeast and other parts of the country.
