Koppal government teacher Basavaraj accused of betraying fiancée after engagement, secretly marrying another woman, police register case amid serious allegations of deception

Koppal: A serious controversy has emerged from Karnataka’s Koppal district after a government school teacher has been accused of cheating, breach of promise, and emotional exploitation following his alleged secret marriage to another woman despite being formally engaged.

The accused, identified as Basavaraj Harijan, a government teacher posted in Kanneramadu village of Kanakagiri taluk, is now facing a police investigation after a complaint was filed at the Koppal Women’s Police Station by the alleged victim and her family.

Allegations of Long-Term Relationship and Broken Engagement

According to the complaint, Basavaraj had been in a relationship with a young woman from Hulasanatti, Karemma, since her college days when she was pursuing her B.Sc. degree in Koppal. The complainant claims that the relationship lasted for nearly five years and was built on a promise of marriage.

It is further alleged that the teacher assured marriage after securing a government job and later got engaged to the woman in the presence of elders in Kanneramadu.

Marriage to Another Woman Sparks Complaint

However, the situation took a drastic turn when Basavaraj allegedly went on to marry another woman named Ratnava without informing the complainant. Shockingly, the marriage registration certificate was reportedly sent to the complainant’s home, triggering emotional distress and prompting legal action.

The complainant has alleged that she was misled and emotionally exploited under the promise of marriage, and has demanded strict legal action against the accused.

Police Investigation Underway

Following the complaint, Koppal Women’s Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the allegations of cheating and breach of trust. Statements from both parties are being recorded as part of the inquiry.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on possible arrests or disciplinary action.
