Convicted former minister Vinay Kulkarni challenges life imprisonment in the Yogesh Gowda murder case, seeks suspension of sentence to avoid disqualification as MLA
Bengaluru: The high-profile Yogesh Gowda murder case has once again reached the legal spotlight after convicts, including former Karnataka minister Vinay Kulkarni, approached the Karnataka High Court seeking cancellation or suspension of their life imprisonment sentence.
According to court filings, Vinay Kulkarni and co-convict Chandrashekhar have challenged the verdict delivered by the Special Court for People’s Representatives, which had sentenced them to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of Zilla Panchayat member Yogesh Gowda.
The appeal is expected to be heard on Monday, April 27, where the court will examine the grounds for interim relief and suspension of the sentence.
Legal sources indicate that the petition emphasises urgency, citing the 90-day window within which a conviction’s operational status can influence elected positions.
With the matter now before the High Court, all eyes are on the upcoming hearing, which may determine whether the life sentence remains in force or is temporarily suspended pending further legal proceedings.
