21-year-old engineering student killed in tragic BMTC bus accident near Srinivaspur Cross on Uttarahalli Main Road; police arrest driver and launch investigation

Bengaluru: A tragic road accident in Bengaluru has claimed the life of a 21-year-old engineering student after she was allegedly run over by a BMTC bus near Srinivaspur Cross on Uttarahalli Main Road, under the jurisdiction of the Kengeri Traffic Police Station.

The deceased has been identified as Sirisha (21), an engineering student who was riding a two-wheeler at the time of the incident. The accident has triggered shock and grief, once again highlighting concerns over road safety and heavy vehicle movement in densely populated urban stretches.

How the Accident Occurred
According to preliminary police reports, Sirisha was riding her bike in the same direction as a BMTC bus when the handle of her two-wheeler reportedly came in contact with the bus. This caused her to lose control and fall onto the road.

In a tragic sequence of events, the bus allegedly ran over her immediately after she fell, resulting in her death on the spot.

Driver Taken Into Custody
Police have taken the BMTC bus driver, identified as Chandru, into custody. A case has been registered by the Kengeri Traffic Police, and investigations are currently underway to determine the exact sequence of events and possible negligence.

Officials are also examining whether overspeeding, blind spot issues, or road conditions contributed to the accident.

Body Sent for Post-Mortem Examination
The body of the deceased student has been shifted to RR Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Authorities confirmed that all legal procedures are being followed as part of the investigation.

Road Safety Concerns Resurface in Bengaluru
This incident has once again raised serious concerns about urban traffic safety, bus movement regulations, and the protection of two-wheeler riders on Bengaluru roads. Citizens have long demanded stricter enforcement of traffic discipline, especially on busy stretches like Uttarahalli Main Road.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to review CCTV footage and witness statements to establish accountability in the case.
