A woman returning home from work in Delhi was allegedly assaulted inside a private sleeper bus, triggering fresh concerns over women’s safety in the national capital
New Delhi: In a deeply disturbing incident that has once again raised serious questions about women’s safety in the national capital, a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted inside a private sleeper bus in New Delhi, police officials said on Thursday.
According to police sources, the incident reportedly took place on the night of May 11 when the woman was returning home after finishing work at a factory in northwest Delhi.
Investigators said the woman was near a bus stop in the Saraswati Vihar area when she approached a man near a private sleeper bus. She later alleged that she was forcibly taken inside the vehicle, where the assault took place.
Police have confirmed that the two accused, the bus driver and conductor,of have now been arrested. The bus involved in the case has also been seized as part of the investigation.
Case Registered, Investigation Underway
A criminal case has reportedly been registered under relevant sections of the Delhi Police investigation framework, and officials say further evidence collection is underway.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage, witness statements, and forensic evidence as part of the ongoing probe. Police officials have stated that all legal procedures are being followed.
“The accused have been arrested, and further investigation is underway,” police sources said.
The incident has sparked strong public reaction and renewed debate around public transport safety, night-time policing, and protection of women in urban spaces.
