A passenger allegedly opened an emergency exit and jumped from an Air Arabia flight on the taxiway at Chennai Airport, prompting a CISF response and runway disruption
Chennai: In a shocking aviation security incident, passengers onboard an Air Arabia flight arriving from Sharjah to Chennai were left terrified after a male passenger allegedly opened the aircraft’s emergency exit door and jumped out while the plane was still moving on the taxiway at Chennai International Airport.
According to airport sources, the flight had safely landed on the runway during the early hours of Sunday and was slowly moving toward the designated parking bay when the unexpected incident took place.
Before the aircraft could reach its assigned parking position, the passenger suddenly opened the emergency exit door and jumped out, causing panic among fellow passengers and triggering an immediate airport security response.
Passenger Reportedly Unwell During Flight
Preliminary reports suggest the passenger had reportedly complained of health discomfort during the journey.
Officials stated that the man had complained of nausea and reportedly vomited multiple times during the flight. Investigators suspect physical discomfort or mental stress may have influenced his sudden behaviour, though the exact reason is still under investigation.
CISF Responds Immediately
Soon after the incident, the pilot alerted airport authorities and security personnel.
Members of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) quickly reached the spot, secured the passenger, and later handed him over to local police for further questioning.
Initial reports indicate that the passenger is believed to be a resident of Pudukottai district in Tamil Nadu.
Runway Operations Temporarily Affected
Due to security concerns following the incident, airport authorities temporarily suspended operations on the main runway between 3:23 AM and 4:23 AM.
During this period, flight operations were shifted to a secondary runway as aviation officials carried out emergency safety checks.
Authorities later confirmed that there was no damage to the aircraft and no injuries to passengers or crew members.
“A detailed investigation has been initiated into possible aviation safety violations.”
Airport and aviation security officials are now examining all aspects of the incident, including passenger behaviour, onboard response protocols, and security compliance.
