35-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Suffocates Mother Over Superstition and Property Dispute in Anupanahalli, Tumkur Taluk
Tumakuru: A 35-year-old woman allegedly murdered her mother after believing the claims of an online astrologer, police said. The accused has been arrested along with her husband, and a case has been registered at the Kyathasandra Police Station. The incident happened in Anupanahalli in Tumakuru, Karnataka.
The deceased has been identified as Pushpalatha, 55, while the accused is her daughter, Suchitra, 35. According to preliminary investigation, the crime was allegedly driven by superstition and financial motives, including property and bank deposits.
Astrologer’s Claim Triggered Suspicion
Police sources said that Suchitra, who was living with her husband in Srinagar area of Tumkur city, had been emotionally disturbed following the death of her father about one and a half years ago.
Investigators revealed that Suchitra had reportedly contacted an astrologer online, who allegedly told her that her mother was responsible for her father’s death through black magic or supernatural means. Believing these claims, she began suspecting her mother.
Authorities stated that "Suchitra was convinced that her mother had cast a spell leading to her father’s death and decided to take extreme action."
Mother Suffocated While Asleep
According to the police, Suchitra allegedly suffocated her mother with a pillow while she was asleep inside the house. After committing the crime, she reportedly attempted to portray the death as natural and proceeded with preparations for the last rites.
However, villagers who noticed inconsistencies in the condition and circumstances of the body grew suspicious and alerted authorities. Following further inquiry, police determined that the death was not natural but a case of murder.
Property Angle Under Investigation
Preliminary findings also suggest a possible financial motive. The deceased Pushpalatha reportedly owned a house in her name and had approximately Rs 40 lakh in her bank account. Police suspect that the accused may have attempted to conceal the murder to gain control over the assets.
A case has been registered at Kyathasandra Police Station, and both Suchitra and her husband have been taken into custody.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events, financial transactions, and the role of the astrologer in influencing the accused.
On the Other hand, authorities have once again urged citizens not to fall prey to superstition and unverified online claims, stressing the importance of rational thinking and legal recourse in times of emotional distress.
