New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, BNP, for securing a historic and decisive victory in the Bangladesh parliamentary elections, indicating India’s readiness to work closely with the new political leadership in Dhaka.


In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi extended his warm wishes to Tarique Rahman for leading the BNP to a clear majority, stating that the mandate reflects the confidence of the Bangladeshi people in his leadership.

“I convey my warm congratulations to Mr. Tarique Rahman on leading BNP to a decisive victory in the Parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. This victory shows the trust of the people of Bangladesh in your leadership. India will continue to stand in support of a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh,” the Prime Minister posted on X.

The Prime Minister emphasized that India remains committed to democratic values and regional stability, reiterating New Delhi’s consistent support for a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. He further said he looks forward to strengthening multifaceted bilateral relations and pursuing common development goals with the incoming government.


India Reaffirms Commitment to Democratic and Inclusive Bangladesh

Prime Minister Modi underlined that India values its longstanding ties with Bangladesh and remains prepared to deepen cooperation across sectors, including trade, connectivity, security and regional development. He stated that the people’s mandate demonstrates faith in Rahman’s leadership and opens a new chapter in bilateral engagement.


According to the Prime Minister’s official post dated February 13, 2026, India will continue to stand by Bangladesh’s democratic aspirations and work towards enhancing regional peace and prosperity.


BNP Declares Victory, Claims Comfortable Majority

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has declared victory in the parliamentary elections, announcing that it is ready to form the next government. In a statement shared on X, the party said it has secured a clear and comfortable majority in the 300-member parliament.


According to estimates by various Bangladeshi media outlets, the BNP has reportedly won more than 175 seats. However, the Election Commission of Bangladesh has not yet made an official announcement regarding the final results.


The development marks a significant political shift in Bangladesh, with the BNP projecting the mandate as a strong endorsement of its leadership and governance agenda.
