Special Investigation Team Rules Out Income Tax Pressure in Confident Group Chairman’s Death, Examines Financial Records and Stress Factors

Kochi: The Special Investigation Team, probing the death of Confident Group chairman C. J. Roy, has found no evidence to support allegations that Income Tax officials harassed or pressured him before his death at his Bengaluru office on January 31.

According to officials, the investigation has reached its final stage, and preliminary findings indicate that severe business-related stress is the likely trigger behind the suspected suicide. The SIT confirmed that Roy was not questioned by tax authorities on the day of his death and found no material suggesting intimidation or coercion.

“There is no evidence to indicate harassment by tax officials. The probe is now focusing on other factors that may have impacted his mental state,” sources said.

Focus Shifts to Financial and Personal Stress Factors

Investigators are now examining multiple aspects that may have contributed to Roy’s mental health condition, including his recent treatment for stress and possible financial pressures.

The SIT has recorded statements from three of Roy’s close friends in Kochi, who were in contact with him in the days leading up to the incident. Officials are also preparing to scrutinise the financial affairs of his business ventures.

Audit records are being reviewed, and private auditors have been appointed to analyse company transactions to determine whether regulatory scrutiny, investor pressure, or disruptions in fund flows added to his stress.

Roy, known for his lavish lifestyle, had reportedly been under heightened scrutiny over financial transactions in recent months.

Confident Group Operations Continue

Meanwhile, the Confident Group has stated that work across all project sites has resumed and that commitments to buyers remain unchanged.

The SIT’s final report is expected soon, as investigators complete their assessment of financial records and personal factors surrounding the high-profile case.
