BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra alleges systemic injustice against SCs, STs, Backward Classes and youth, questions Congress government’s priorities and governance in Karnataka

Belgaum: BJP Karnataka State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the ruling Congress government, alleging that the administration led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has been reduced to corruption and has failed to ensure development or social justice during its nearly three-year tenure.

Addressing reporters in Belgaum, Vijayendra claimed that the Congress government has not fulfilled the expectations of the poor, farmers, youth, Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) since assuming power. He alleged that the trust reposed by these communities in the Congress has been betrayed, resulting in growing dissatisfaction across Karnataka.

“There is a serious discussion across Karnataka today that injustice is being done to Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes under the Congress government,” Vijayendra said.

Allegation of selective appeasement politics

Vijayendra accused the Siddaramaiah-led government of pursuing what he termed as minority appeasement politics while ignoring other marginalized communities. He alleged that despite projecting itself as a champion of the ‘Ahinda’ bloc, the Congress has sidelined the very communities it claims to represent.

He questioned whether the government believes poverty exists only within one section of society, asking, “Are there no poor people among SCs, STs and Backward Classes?” According to him, the state’s welfare policies reflect imbalance and discrimination in the distribution of benefits.

Minority loan waiver order questioned

Referring to a recent government order under the One-Time Settlement Scheme, Vijayendra alleged that the Congress government waived 100 percent interest on loans taken by minority beneficiaries through the Minority Development Corporation, requiring repayment of only the principal amount.

He questioned why similar financial relief was not extended to SC, ST and Backward Class beneficiaries.

“What injustice have other communities committed to deserve such neglect?” he asked.

Backward Class students denied hostel admissions

Highlighting what he described as administrative failure, Vijayendra cited a media report stating that 1.41 lakh students from Backward Classes have not been allotted hostel seats across Karnataka. He claimed that the concerned minister had acknowledged the issue.

According to him, this development exposes the gap between the Congress government’s claims of social justice and ground reality. He accused the government of shedding “crocodile tears” for Backward Classes without implementing concrete corrective measures.

Failure in job creation promises

Raising the issue of unemployment, Vijayendra reminded the Congress of its pre-election promises to create employment opportunities for youth. He alleged that the state government has consistently blamed the Centre while failing to generate sufficient jobs within Karnataka.

“How many jobs has your government created in the state so far?” he asked, demanding accountability from the Chief Minister.

Lathi charge on protesting youth

Vijayendra also condemned the alleged lathi charge on youth and students during protests in Hubballi when the legislative session was underway at Suvarna Soudha. He said students were compelled to protest to draw the government’s attention to their demands.

He added that the matter escalated to the extent that the Karnataka High Court had to intervene and direct the Chief Minister to fix a date to meet the agitating youth.

2.75 lakh government posts remain vacant

The BJP leader further alleged that around 2.75 lakh posts across various state government departments remain vacant, accusing the Congress government of failing to initiate timely recruitment processes.

According to Vijayendra, if the administration were genuinely concerned about educated unemployed youth, such large-scale vacancies would not have remained unfilled for an extended period.
