Former MP Prajwal Revanna was allegedly found with an Android mobile phone inside Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Jail. Assistant Superintendent Eeranna Rangapur was suspended, while Jail Superintendent Anshuk Kumar received a show-cause notice.
Bengaluru: Former Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, who is serving a life sentence after being convicted in a rape case, was allegedly found with an Android mobile phone inside Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bengaluru.
The alleged discovery of the phone has led prison authorities to take action against jail officials. Assistant Superintendent Eeranna Rangapur has been suspended for alleged dereliction of duty, while Jail Superintendent Anshuk Kumar has been served a show-cause notice.
According to sources, Crime Branch officials found Revanna allegedly using the phone during a surprise inspection. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine how the mobile device entered the prison.
Prajwal Revanna Jail Mobile Case Under Investigation
The discovery of the alleged mobile phone has prompted authorities to examine security arrangements inside the prison and the circumstances under which the device reached Revanna’s cell.
The Crime Branch is investigating the case and examining the source of the mobile phone and how it was allegedly brought inside the jail.

Following the incident, Assistant Superintendent Eeranna Rangapur was suspended over alleged lapses in duty.
Jail Superintendent Anshuk Kumar was also issued a show-cause notice by DGP (Prisons) Alok Kumar. The notice seeks an explanation regarding the alleged security lapse involving Revanna’s cell.
Prajwal Revanna Serving Life Sentence
Prajwal Revanna is the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and nephew of Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted in a rape and intimidation case. He was also convicted in connection with the circulation of videos involving the sexual assault of a 48-year-old woman.
The woman, who worked as domestic help at the Revanna family’s farmhouse in Holenarasipura, Hassan district, had alleged that Revanna repeatedly sexually assaulted her from 2021.
According to the allegations, he recorded the acts and threatened to release the videos if she informed others.
Revanna left for Germany after the videos emerged and was later suspended by the JD(S). He lost the 2024 Lok Sabha election and was arrested after returning from Germany.
Prajwal Revanna Phone Discovery Raises Jail Security Questions
The alleged discovery of a mobile phone inside Revanna’s cell has raised questions about security procedures and the monitoring of prisoners at Parappana Agrahara Jail.
Personal mobile phones, SIM cards and electronic communication devices are prohibited inside prisons. Permitted communication is conducted through designated institutional systems, including monitored landlines, public call offices or approved video-calling facilities, subject to prison rules.
Authorities are now examining whether prison procedures were breached and whether any officials or other individuals helped the device enter the facility.
Darshan Prison Phone Case Also Drew Action
The incident comes after a similar controversy involving Kannada actor Darshan during his judicial custody in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case.
In 2024, photographs and videos emerged from prison showing Darshan with other people. A photograph showed him smoking a cigarette while seated on a lawn with three others, while a separate video showed him apparently speaking on a phone.

Following the emergence of the material, prison authorities suspended multiple officials and transferred Darshan to Ballari Central Prison.
The authorities also initiated action over alleged violations of prison security procedures and access to prohibited facilities.
The latest case involving the alleged discovery of a mobile phone in Prajwal Revanna’s cell has again placed prison security arrangements and the monitoring of prisoners under scrutiny.
The Crime Branch investigation is continuing, while the prison department is examining the role and responsibility of officials following the alleged security lapse.
