A Delhi Police head constable sustained stab injuries during the CJP protest near Parliament Street as authorities investigate the incident amid ongoing unrest in the national capital

Head Constable Balram of Delhi Police was injured after being allegedly stabbed during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest near Parliament Street on Wednesday evening. Police said the attack occurred while officers were on deployment, and an investigation has been launched to identify the accused.


New Delhi: A Delhi Police head constable sustained stab injuries during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest near Parliament Street on Wednesday evening, adding to the violence reported during demonstrations linked to the alleged NEET-UG 2026 examination irregularities.


The injured officer, Head Constable Balram, said he was attacked from behind while crossing the road near the Regal Building during protest duty. Police have launched an investigation to identify the suspect.


Head Constable Alleges Protester Stabbed Him

Speaking about the incident, Head Constable Balram said he and a group of police personnel were crossing Parliament Street at around 8.40 pm when they were followed by a crowd.

According to him, an unidentified man allegedly stabbed him in the back before disappearing into the crowd.

"I was on protest duty. While crossing the road near the Regal Building, someone stabbed me from behind. I started bleeding heavily and was taken to the hospital," Head Constable Balram said.

The officer described the suspected attacker as a man aged around 24 to 25 years, wearing a black T-shirt, who allegedly fled immediately after the incident.


Balram said the large crowd made it difficult to identify or apprehend the suspect.


Several Police Personnel Injured During Clashes

The injured officer stated that several of his colleagues, including senior officers, were also assaulted during the protest.


He alleged that protesters targeted police personnel whenever they became separated from larger security groups.

"Many other officers, including our ACP, were also injured during the clashes," Balram said.

Police have not yet released the total number of officers injured during the latest violence.


Investigation Underway

Delhi Police have initiated an investigation into the stabbing and are examining available evidence, including CCTV footage and other video recordings from the protest area.

Officials are working to identify the person allegedly involved in the attack.

The incident occurred amid clashes between protesters and police during demonstrations near Parliament over demands related to the alleged NEET-UG 2026 examination irregularities.


CJP Protest Continues

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), led by Abhijeet Dipke, has been protesting in Delhi, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and a judicial probe into the alleged NEET-UG 2026 examination irregularities.

The movement has also received support from activist Sonam Wangchuk, who continues his hunger strike after being shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.

Authorities have increased security across central Delhi as demonstrations continue.


Legal Action to Depend on Investigation

Police have not yet announced the specific charges in the case. Legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation and the evidence collected during the probe. Authorities are expected to invoke relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) if the allegations are substantiated.
