DIG-led team to investigate mobile phone found in Prajwal Revanna’s barracks at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail
A DIG-led team will investigate the mobile phone found in former MP Prajwal Revanna’s barracks at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail during a CCB raid and examine possible prison security lapses.
Bengaluru: A team led by Prisons and Corrections Department DIG Jinendra Khangavi has been formed to investigate the discovery of a mobile phone in the barracks of former MP Prajwal Revanna at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru.
The phone was found during a raid conducted by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) at the prison. The investigation will examine how the mobile phone entered the jail, who gave it to Prajwal Revanna and how long he had allegedly been using it.
Prisons and Corrections Department DGP Alok Kumar has directed the DIG-led team to investigate the matter from all angles and submit a report.
Prajwal Revanna Jail Mobile Phone Case Under Investigation
The investigation follows the discovery of the mobile phone in the barracks where Prajwal Revanna is lodged.
DIG Jinendra Khangavi met DGP Alok Kumar and discussed the case. The probe will examine the circumstances surrounding the presence of the phone inside the prison and whether any prison officials or others were involved.

Authorities will also investigate how the device entered Parappana Agrahara Central Jail despite restrictions on mobile phones and other unauthorised communication devices.
Probe to Establish Who Gave Phone to Prajwal Revanna
The investigation team has been asked to establish several details concerning the mobile phone.
Officials will investigate who provided the phone to Prajwal Revanna, how the device entered the prison and how long it was allegedly being used inside the barracks.
The probe will also examine whether any prison officials assisted in bringing the device into the jail. DGP Alok Kumar said action would be taken if officials were found to be involved in the matter.

Parappana Agrahara Jail Security Lapses Under Review
The mobile phone discovery has also raised questions about security arrangements at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail. According to DGP Alok Kumar, jammers have been installed around the prison, resulting in difficulties for people living in nearby areas in accessing mobile network towers.
Despite these arrangements, SIM cards have reportedly been found inside the jail.
Alok Kumar said Airtel SIM cards, including SIM cards from Andhra Pradesh, have been found inside the prison despite repeated warnings regarding their use. The department is now examining how mobile phones and SIM cards are entering the prison despite the security measures.
Prison Officials May Face Action
The DIG-led team will also investigate whether prison officials were involved in allowing the mobile phone to reach Prajwal Revanna. DGP Alok Kumar said the department would examine whether officials had assisted in bringing the device into the prison.
If the investigation establishes the involvement of officials, action will be taken against those responsible. The department has directed the investigation team to examine the case and submit its findings.
Priyank Kharge Responds to Prajwal Revanna Mobile Case
Home Minister Priyank Kharge also responded to questions concerning the case and a video linked to Prajwal Revanna. Kharge questioned whether the video being circulated was an old recording and said the circumstances surrounding the recording and its circulation would need to be established.
He said it was not possible to immediately determine who provided the phone or who may have assisted in the alleged activity. Kharge said action would be taken against anyone found to have cooperated with inappropriate activities inside the prison.
He also stated that during his tenure, action was not restricted based on rank and that officials ranging from constables to IPS officers could face action if found responsible.
Prajwal Revanna Jail Mobile Probe to Establish Responsibility
The DIG-led investigation is expected to establish the source of the mobile phone, the duration of its alleged use and the people involved in bringing it inside Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.
The probe will also examine possible security lapses and whether any prison officials facilitated the use of the device.
Further action will depend on the findings submitted by the investigation team to the Prisons and Corrections Department.
