Six more accused, including a key suspect, have been arrested as police intensify the investigation into the six-person murder case linked to a land dispute
Vijayapura: Police have arrested six more persons, including a key accused, in connection with the brutal six-person murder case reported from Govindpura village in Chadachana taluk of Vijayapura district. With the latest arrests, the total number of accused taken into custody in the sensational Govindpura massacre case has risen to 18.
The murders, which took place on May 29, shocked Karnataka after six individuals were allegedly hacked to death over a long-standing land dispute. The victims were identified as Chandrakant Nirale, his sons Samarth Nirale and Rahul Nirale, Dundappa Nirale, Shivaputra Nirale, and Shabbir Attar.

Six More Arrested in Govindpura Murder Case
According to police, the latest arrests include Appugowda Patil, identified as one of the key accused in the case, along with Laganagowda alias Lakkanagowda Patil (49), Shankrappa, Madeva Arakeri (33), Appasaba alias Kishan, Shankar Bhovi (56), Satyappa, Jakkappa Biradar (46), Sultana, Madeva Biradar (24), Mahesh Tham, and Bellenni Biradar (25).
The accused were subjected to medical examinations before being produced before a court. Subsequently, the court remanded them to police custody for further interrogation as investigators continue to unravel the conspiracy behind the killings.
“A total of 18 accused have been arrested so far in connection with the Govindpura massacre case,” Vijayapura Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi said.
Earlier Arrests in the Case
Police had earlier arrested 12 accused, including the alleged prime accused, Kallanagouda Patil, on June 1. The fresh arrests are part of an ongoing operation to identify and apprehend all individuals allegedly involved in the killings.
Investigators believe the murders stemmed from a land-related dispute that had escalated between rival groups in the village. Authorities are examining the roles of each accused and gathering further evidence to strengthen the case.
Questions Raised Over Police Phone Access
Meanwhile, controversy has emerged after reports surfaced alleging that one of the accused had access to a police-issued mobile phone while in connection with the investigation. The development has raised concerns regarding procedural lapses and security protocols.
The matter is expected to come under scrutiny, and attention is now focused on the action that the district police administration may take if any irregularities are established during the inquiry.

The Govindpura massacre remains one of the most shocking criminal incidents reported in Karnataka this year.
