Karnataka Chief Minister directs departments to clear pending work, strengthen law and order, and prepare district-wise development plans within fixed timelines

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has issued stringent directives to government departments, mandating the completion of pending administrative work within 25 days while simultaneously pushing for governance reforms, improved law and order, and corruption-free administration across the state.

Addressing senior officials and department secretaries during a high-level review meeting at the Vidhana Soudha conference hall on Wednesday, the Chief Minister instructed all departments to submit detailed reports on pending projects, district-specific issues, and new development initiatives that can be executed within existing financial constraints.

The directions come as the newly sworn-in Chief Minister moves swiftly to establish his governance priorities and streamline the state's administrative machinery.

DK Shivakumar Sets 25-Day Deadline for Pending Government Work

During the meeting, Shivakumar directed district-level officials and department secretaries to prepare comprehensive lists of unresolved issues and pending projects. He said district-wise challenges must be documented and submitted for review so that district in-charge ministers can monitor and address them effectively.

The Chief Minister also asked officials to identify development opportunities that can be implemented within available financial resources and suggest practical solutions to long-pending public grievances.

"I do not like writing or reading history. History should be created. There should be evidence of our work and achievements," Shivakumar told officials.

Calling for a solution-oriented approach, he urged bureaucrats to focus on results rather than procedural delays and to work positively within the framework of the system.

Karnataka Law and Order Under Focus

A significant portion of the review meeting focused on concerns surrounding the state's law and order situation. The Chief Minister expressed concern over increasing criminal activities, including rowdyism, drug trafficking, ganja distribution, gambling networks, illegal sand mining, and matka operations in several districts.

Particular attention was given to Bengaluru, where incidents related to murder, extortion, and narcotics trafficking have raised public concern in recent months.

Following discussions with senior police officials, Shivakumar announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening policing and crime prevention across Karnataka.

Special Police Squads to Monitor Rowdy Activities

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the Chief Minister revealed that special police teams would be established in every taluk to monitor and curb rowdy activities.

According to the plan, each squad will comprise 10 to 15 police personnel tasked with tracking habitual offenders, monitoring known rowdies, identifying youths entering criminal networks, and taking preventive measures before crimes occur.

The initiative is intended to enhance public safety, strengthen law enforcement capabilities, and improve citizens' confidence in the state's security apparatus.

"Special teams should closely monitor criminal elements and take proactive action to prevent unlawful activities. Public safety must remain a top priority," Shivakumar said.

Officials believe the taluk-level surveillance mechanism will enable police to respond more effectively to emerging criminal trends while maintaining stricter oversight of repeat offenders.

Administrative Reforms and Transparent Governance

The Chief Minister also used the meeting to outline the governing principles of his administration. Stressing transparency and accountability, he instructed officials to perform their duties without yielding to external pressure.

Shivakumar asserted that governance under his leadership would remain impartial and free from caste or religious considerations.

"I expect quality work from officials. People should receive services without delay and administration should function transparently," he said.

He further emphasised that government officers serve as the critical link between the administration and citizens and therefore must respond promptly to public concerns.

Corruption-Free Administration a Key Priority

Reiterating his government's commitment to clean governance, Shivakumar directed senior officials to adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward corruption.

The Chief Minister stated that public trust in government institutions depends on transparency, accountability, and efficient delivery of services. He instructed officials and ministers to function strictly within the framework of law and avoid any form of undue influence.

"Our goal is to provide a corruption-free government. Ministers and officials must work together to ensure a clean and accountable administration," he said.

He warned that corruption in any department would not be tolerated and directed authorities to initiate strict action wherever irregularities are detected.

Action Plans and Welfare Scheme Implementation

As part of the broader administrative overhaul, Shivakumar instructed all departments to prepare action plans within 15 days. He also directed officials to ensure the immediate implementation of the six welfare schemes announced by the government.

The Chief Minister said efficient delivery of government schemes, quick grievance redressal, and people-centric governance would remain the foundation of his administration.

He urged officials to work proactively, accelerate development initiatives, and ensure that benefits reach citizens without bureaucratic hurdles.

Concluding the meeting, Shivakumar reiterated that governance should be measured by tangible outcomes and visible improvements in people's lives. He called upon the state's administrative machinery to work collectively toward development, transparency, law enforcement, and public welfare, setting an ambitious agenda for the early days of his tenure as Karnataka's Chief Minister.
