Passenger safety initiative gains praise as youth educates commuters on phone security

Bengaluru: A young man travelling in Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses is earning appreciation from commuters for actively spreading awareness about mobile theft prevention and digital safety among passengers.

Amid increasing incidents of phone theft in crowded public transport, the youth has been advising passengers inside BMTC buses on simple yet effective precautions that can help protect their mobile phones and personal data.

According to commuters, the young man has been moving through buses and politely alerting passengers, especially women and senior citizens, about the risks of carrying phones carelessly in crowded areas.

Passengers advised to avoid unsafe phone handling

During his awareness campaign, the youth reportedly urged women passengers not to keep mobile phones in easily accessible pockets and instead store them safely inside handbags.

He also advised men to hold their phones securely while travelling in crowded buses to reduce the risk of snatching or pickpocketing incidents.

In addition, he encouraged all passengers to use strong security measures such as PINs, passwords or pattern locks to safeguard personal information in case devices are stolen.

“Small precautions can prevent major financial and personal losses caused by mobile theft,” commuters quoted the young man as saying during the awareness drive.

Special awareness for senior citizens

The initiative has drawn special attention for its focus on elderly passengers, who are often more vulnerable to theft and digital fraud.

The young man reportedly advised senior citizens to seek help from their children or family members to activate secure phone locks and avoid sharing passwords with strangers.

Passengers were also reminded to keep Gmail location tracking and device-finding services enabled, which can help trace lost or stolen phones more effectively.

Commuters praise responsible public awareness effort

Several passengers travelling on BMTC buses praised the awareness effort, saying such initiatives are necessary as mobile theft incidents continue to rise in crowded buses and marketplaces across Bengaluru.

Many commuters appreciated the youth’s civic responsibility and said public awareness campaigns inside buses could help people become more cautious during travel.

The initiative has also sparked positive discussions on social media, with users applauding the young man for using public spaces to educate citizens about safety and digital awareness.
