State assures steady Auto LPG supply despite fluctuations, urges drivers not to panic as companies like Indian Oil Corporation continue distribution.

Bengaluru: Amid rising concerns over Auto LPG shortage in Karnataka, the state government has issued a reassuring clarification, stating that there is no major disruption in supply and auto drivers need not panic. The announcement comes as drivers across the state reported long queues and delays at fuel stations, impacting their daily livelihoods.

Auto drivers have been facing severe difficulties, often waiting for hours at LPG bunks to refuel their vehicles. The situation has affected their earnings, forcing many to spend significant time away from work. Rumours of a complete shortage further intensified anxiety among drivers.

Government Clarifies Supply Status
In an official statement, the state government confirmed that although there have been minor fluctuations in supply, distribution is ongoing without interruption. Leading oil companies, including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, are actively ensuring fuel availability.
“There is no need for panic. Auto LPG supply is continuing, and necessary measures are being taken to maintain stability,” the government stated.
Daily Supply Figures Released
According to official data, Auto LPG supply ranged between 83 to 94 metric tonnes per day from April 2 to April 6, indicating a consistent flow:
  • April 2: 87.78 MT
  • April 3: 86.05 MT
  • April 4: 84.80 MT
  • April 5: 94.11 MT (highest supply)
  • April 6: 83.58 MT
The government emphasised that April 5 recorded the highest supply of 94.11 MT, demonstrating adequate stock levels.

Monitoring and Action Plan in Place
Authorities are closely monitoring the LPG distribution system and have assured that additional steps will be taken if required. Auto drivers and owners have been urged to avoid believing rumours and cooperate with officials.

New Guidelines for Industrial LPG Allocation
Meanwhile, the central government has issued fresh guidelines for LPG allocation to industrial sectors, as communicated by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas through Secretary Neeraj Mittal.

Key highlights include:
  1. 70% LPG allocation for various industrial sectors
  2. Additional 10% allocation for states implementing PNG reforms
  3. Priority supply to pharma, food, and agriculture sectors
  4. Daily cap of 0.2 TMT for large LPG consumers
  5. Preference for units unable to switch to natural gas
  6. Mandatory PNG registration for CGD units
  7. Support for industries like packaging, paint, steel, and ceramics
  8. Allocation based on March 2026 consumption data
Relief for Auto Drivers, But Vigilance Continues
While the government’s clarification brings temporary relief, the ground situation continues to challenge drivers. Authorities remain on alert to ensure smooth and uninterrupted fuel supply across the state.
