India calls for de-escalation and diplomacy as the United States–Iran ceasefire halts conflict; an advisory has been issued for Indian nationals in Tehran

New Delhi: India has issued its first official response to the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, welcoming the development and expressing hope that it will lead to lasting peace in West Asia. The Ministry of External Affairs emphasised the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the ongoing tensions.

In its statement, India reiterated that de-escalation is critical to ending the conflict at the earliest. Officials highlighted that sustained dialogue remains the only viable path to stability in the region, which has been witnessing prolonged unrest.
“We welcome the ceasefire and hope it contributes to a durable peace in West Asia. Dialogue and diplomacy are essential to resolve the crisis,” the statement noted.
Concerns Over Humanitarian and Economic Impact
India expressed serious concern over the human suffering caused by the conflict, along with disruptions to global energy supply and trade routes. The situation around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz was also highlighted, with hopes that maritime movement will now resume without disruptions.

Conflict Pause Brings Temporary Relief
The ceasefire between the United States, Israel, and Iran has brought a halt to over a month of intense hostilities in the Middle East. Iran has described the development as a significant strategic outcome, following the decision by Donald Trump to step back from planned military strikes and agree to a two-week ceasefire window.

India Issues Advisory for Citizens in Tehran
Amid the evolving situation, India has issued a fresh advisory for its citizens in Tehran, urging them to leave the country immediately. The Indian Embassy has instructed nationals to remain cautious and follow only designated safe routes while exiting.

Strict Guidelines for Safe Evacuation
The embassy has clearly advised that Indian citizens must:
  1. Stay in contact with embassy officials
  2. Follow approved evacuation routes only
  3. Avoid crossing international borders without prior consultation
Earlier, on April 7, citizens were advised to remain indoors and stay in safe locations. The latest advisory reflects the seriousness of the situation despite the ceasefire.

Diplomacy Key to Long-Term Stability
India’s response underscores its consistent stance on global conflicts prioritizing peace, stability, and diplomatic solutions. While the ceasefire offers immediate relief, officials stress that sustained negotiations will determine the region’s future.
