Ahead of crucial US-Iran talks in Islamabad, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf shares haunting images of children killed in an alleged attack, signalling deep mistrust

Islamabad: In a deeply emotional and politically charged moment ahead of crucial diplomatic talks, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has shared disturbing images of schoolchildren killed in a recent attack, drawing global attention and intensifying the narrative around ongoing tensions.

Arriving in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, with a high-level delegation, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is set to engage in discussions aimed at reducing tensions and potentially ending ongoing hostilities involving the United States. However, before formal talks begin, his emotional tribute has underscored the deep scars and unresolved grief shaping Iran’s stance.

Emotional Tribute Before Critical Talks
The images, shared by Ghalibaf on social media, depict a chilling scene inside an aircraft, rows of seats occupied not by passengers, but by blood-stained school bags and shoes, symbolising children who lost their lives in a reported attack on February 28 in Minab.

Each seat carried a school bag marked with blood, accompanied by a pair of shoes and a flower, creating a silent memorial that spoke louder than words. Ghalibaf captioned the images, “My companions on this journey,” while standing silently among them, visibly moved.

The attack, which reportedly claimed the lives of over 160 girls, has been described as one of the most tragic incidents in recent months, leaving a lasting emotional and political impact on Iran.

“Honest Talks, But No Trust”
Speaking from Islamabad, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf made it clear that while Iran is willing to engage in dialogue, trust remains a major hurdle.

“We are entering negotiations sincerely, but past experiences have shown us reasons to remain cautious,” he stated.

He emphasized that Iran had faced multiple conflicts even while engaged in diplomatic processes, raising concerns about the credibility of future commitments.

Conditions Set Before Formal Negotiations
According to officials, Tehran has laid down strict preconditions for initiating formal talks. Iran insists that the United States must first honor previously agreed commitments before any meaningful progress can be made toward a ceasefire or new agreement.

The Iranian delegation includes key figures such as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and senior security representative Ali Akbar Ahmadian, highlighting the strategic importance of the Islamabad discussions.

Global Attention on High-Stakes Diplomacy
The visit and the emotional visuals have drawn global attention, blending human tragedy with high-stakes geopolitics. Analysts believe that the images shared by Ghalibaf are not just a tribute but also a powerful message ahead of negotiations, reinforcing Iran’s demand for accountability and justice.

As talks loom, the world watches closely, uncertain whether diplomacy can overcome the weight of grief, mistrust, and geopolitical tensions.
