Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu announces uninterrupted subsidy under Deepam scheme, even for PNG users; targets 10 lakh connections

Amaravati: In a major relief to lakhs of beneficiaries, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced that subsidy under the Deepam free gas cylinder scheme will continue even if users shift to Piped Natural Gas (PNG). Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu issued key directions during a high-level review meeting on cooking gas supply and scheme implementation at the Secretariat.

The decision is expected to benefit thousands of poor families who are gradually transitioning to PNG connections, ensuring that financial assistance remains uninterrupted.

Subsidy to Continue Despite PNG Transition
In a significant policy move, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that subsidy amounts are directly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts even after switching to PNG connections. He instructed the immediate issuance of government orders to formalize the decision.

Currently, under the Deepam scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive three free LPG cylinders annually, with the subsidy amount credited within 48 hours of booking and delivery. The latest move expands the scheme’s scope, reinforcing the government’s commitment to welfare.

Push for 10 Lakh PNG Connections
The state government has set an ambitious target to provide 10 lakh PNG connections within the next six months, aiming to promote cleaner, more efficient fuel use. The Chief Minister also emphasized the need to fast-track infrastructure projects, particularly the Srikakulam–Kakinada natural gas pipeline.

During the review, N Chandrababu Naidu also spoke with Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, urging swift execution of pending pipeline works. The Union Minister reportedly assured prompt action, stating that the Centre would soon review and expedite the project.

Who Can Avail the Deepam Scheme?
The Deepam scheme is designed for white ration card holders across Andhra Pradesh. Beneficiaries are entitled to three free cylinders per year, significantly reducing household cooking fuel expenses.

However, officials clarified that subsidy payments will only be processed for those who complete mandatory eKYC verification. The government has urged beneficiaries to update their KYC annually using Aadhaar-linked mobile numbers, a process that can also be completed online via OTP authentication.

Government Urges Immediate eKYC Completion
Authorities have stressed that failure to complete eKYC may lead to delays or denial of subsidy benefits. Beneficiaries have been advised to complete the process at the earliest to continue receiving financial support without interruption.
