Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu announces uninterrupted subsidy under Deepam scheme, even for PNG users; targets 10 lakh connections
Amaravati: In a major relief to lakhs of beneficiaries, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced that subsidy under the Deepam free gas cylinder scheme will continue even if users shift to Piped Natural Gas (PNG). Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu issued key directions during a high-level review meeting on cooking gas supply and scheme implementation at the Secretariat.
The decision is expected to benefit thousands of poor families who are gradually transitioning to PNG connections, ensuring that financial assistance remains uninterrupted.
Currently, under the Deepam scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive three free LPG cylinders annually, with the subsidy amount credited within 48 hours of booking and delivery. The latest move expands the scheme’s scope, reinforcing the government’s commitment to welfare.
During the review, N Chandrababu Naidu also spoke with Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, urging swift execution of pending pipeline works. The Union Minister reportedly assured prompt action, stating that the Centre would soon review and expedite the project.
However, officials clarified that subsidy payments will only be processed for those who complete mandatory eKYC verification. The government has urged beneficiaries to update their KYC annually using Aadhaar-linked mobile numbers, a process that can also be completed online via OTP authentication.
