Police intensify vigil amid bypolls, seize unaccounted cash being transported from Raichur to Belagavi without valid documents

Bagalkot: In a major crackdown during heightened election surveillance in Karnataka, police seized Rs. 32.50 lakh in unaccounted cash from a vehicle at the Honnakatti Check Post in Bagalkot district. The recovery has intensified concerns over possible illegal cash movement linked to voter influence ahead of by-elections.

Rs. 32.5 Lakh Seized During Routine Vehicle Check
The cash was recovered from a Maruti Ertiga during a routine inspection by police officials. Authorities found the large sum being transported without any valid documents, prompting immediate seizure under election monitoring guidelines.

Cash Traced to Raichur-Based Individual
Preliminary investigations have identified the owner of the cash as B. Veeresh Babu from Raichur. Sources indicate that the money was being transported from Raichur to Belagavi, raising suspicion over its intended use during the sensitive election period.

Election Surveillance Intensified Across Karnataka
The seizure comes amid strict enforcement measures following the announcement of by-elections in Bagalkot and Davanagere South Assembly constituencies. The Election Commission has ramped up vigilance across the state to prevent any electoral malpractices.

Focus on Illegal Cash Movement and Voter Bribery
Authorities are conducting intensive vehicle checks and surveillance operations to curb:
Illegal transportation of cash, distribution of money to influence voters

Officials have reiterated that any suspicious movement of large sums without proper documentation will face strict legal action, especially during the election period.

“Unaccounted cash movement during elections is being closely monitored. Strict action will be taken against violations,” officials stated.

Investigation Underway to Trace Source and Purpose
Police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the origin of the seized cash and its intended use. Authorities are also probing whether the money has any direct links to election-related activities or voter inducement.
