Bengaluru: A Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus met with a serious accident on Sunday evening around 6:49 pm in Kamalanagar, close to the busy Rajkumar Circle, after reportedly suffering a brake failure, according to initial police findings. The incident occurred during peak evening hours, intensifying fear among commuters and pedestrians present at the spot.

WHAT CAUSED THE BMTC ACCIDENT
Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, leading it to ram into a tree on the roadside. Sources from the traffic police indicated that driver negligence is being examined as a key factor behind the accident, though a detailed mechanical inspection of the bus is underway to confirm the exact cause of the brake failure.

PEDESTRIANS AND COMMUTERS ESCAPE NARROWLY
Eyewitnesses said the bus, after losing control, ran over people on the road, creating chaos in the area. One young man reportedly escaped unharmed by a hair’s breadth, while an auto-rickshaw driver, bikers, and several pedestrians present at the junction also managed to avoid serious injuries.
“It was a terrifying moment. The bus suddenly swerved and crashed into the tree. People were screaming and running,” said a local eyewitness near Rajkumar Circle.
INJURIES AND DAMAGE REPORTED
While no fatalities were reported, several passengers inside the BMTC bus sustained minor injuries and were provided first aid. An auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle were damaged due to the impact. Police officials stated that the situation could have turned into a major tragedy if the bus had not been stopped by the tree.

OFFICIAL RESPONSE AND INVESTIGATION
Traffic police reached the spot immediately and cleared the congestion caused by the accident. BMTC officials have assured a departmental inquiry into the incident and reiterated the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and strict adherence to safety protocols.

The case has raised renewed concerns over public transport safety in Bengaluru, especially incidents involving BMTC bus brake failures in densely populated areas.
