Bengaluru: The Banashankari police have arrested two employees of the central government’s GST office for allegedly extorting lakhs of rupees from gutkha traders by posing as GST Intelligence officers using fake identity cards.


According to police officials, the accused, employed as housekeepers on an outsourcing basis at the GST office, were creating fraudulent ID cards to impersonate central government officials. They reportedly threatened gutkha traders to extract large sums of money. One such victim, a gutkha seller from Peenya, was allegedly targeted by the duo.

Fraud Exposed by GST Officials
The fraudulent activities of the accused came to light after senior GST office officials noticed irregularities in their conduct. Following this, the GST superintendent lodged a formal complaint with the Banashankari police.

Arrest and Seizure
Based on the complaint, the Banashankari police registered a case and arrested the two employees. Investigators seized fake ID cards and cash amounting to Rs 5 lakh from the accused. Police confirmed that further interrogation and investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the extortion network.

Officials mentioned the seriousness of impersonating government officials and assured strict legal action against those involved in such fraudulent practices.
