Parents File Police Complaint Against Hospital Staff After Six-Month-Old Infant Injured During Routine Procedure in Indiranagar

Bengaluru: In a deeply disturbing incident that has raised serious concerns over patient safety and medical accountability, a six-month-old baby allegedly suffered partial amputation of a finger due to nursing negligence at Chinmaya Mission Hospital, located in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar area.

According to the complaint filed by the infant’s parents, the baby had been admitted to the hospital on February 19 after suffering from fever and cough. Doctors reportedly advised inpatient care due to the child’s fragile condition, following which the infant underwent continuous treatment for nearly five days.

Incident Occurred During Routine Medical Procedure
The shocking incident allegedly took place on February 24, when the child was being prepared for discharge after showing signs of recovery. While a nurse was reportedly removing the dressing applied for an intravenous drip, she allegedly cut half of the baby’s left-hand little finger, resulting in a serious injury.
The infant is said to have cried in extreme pain, leaving the parents traumatised. The injury, according to the family, was not immediately explained clearly, adding to their suspicion of negligence and lack of transparency.
Parents Allege Attempt to Suppress Truth
The parents have alleged that the hospital staff and management initially attempted to downplay the incident and failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the injury. They further claimed that there was no senior medical supervision at the time the procedure was performed.
“Our child was recovering and was about to be discharged. While we were at the billing counter, the nurse’s carelessness permanently injured our baby. This is unacceptable,” the baby’s father, Vijay Kumar stated in his complaint.
Police Complaint Filed; Legal Action Sought
Angered by the incident, the parents approached the police and filed a formal complaint against the nurse, attending doctors, hospital staff, and the hospital administration. They have demanded strict legal action and accountability for what they describe as gross medical negligence.
Police sources confirmed that the complaint has been registered and that preliminary verification is underway. Further action will depend on medical records, CCTV footage, and expert opinion, officials said.
Hospital Yet to Issue Official Statement
As of the time of filing this report, Chinmaya Mission Hospital has not issued an official response to the allegations.
