A suspected ragging incident near Gujjarakere in Mangaluru has left two first-year college students injured after they were allegedly assaulted by senior students. Police have registered a case, recorded statements from the victims, and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
Mangaluru: A suspected ragging incident involving students of a college in Mangaluru is under police investigation after two first-year students were allegedly assaulted by a group of senior students near Gujjarakere on Tuesday. The injured students were admitted to a private hospital for treatment, while police have initiated legal proceedings to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place near a tea stall in the Gujjarakere area where the two first-year students were standing. A group of approximately four to six second-year students allegedly approached the juniors, following which an altercation reportedly broke out. The confrontation later escalated into a physical assault, resulting in injuries to both first-year students.
"Two first-year students sustained injuries in the alleged assault and are currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital," police officials said.
Mangaluru College Ragging Incident Leaves Two Students Hospitalised
The injured students were immediately shifted to Highland Hospital in Mangaluru, where they are receiving medical treatment. Their condition is being monitored by doctors.
Police officers visited the scene soon after receiving information about the incident and carried out a preliminary inspection. Statements from the injured students are being recorded as part of the investigation.
Police Probe Suspected Ragging Case in Mangaluru College
Speaking to the media, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that the incident appears to be a suspected case of ragging based on the preliminary findings.
"The assault on first-year students appears to be a suspected ragging case based on the preliminary assessment. Statements of the injured students are being recorded, and a detailed investigation will be conducted," Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said.
The Commissioner further confirmed that a case has been registered at the Mangaluru South (Pandeshwar) Police Station, and investigators are examining all aspects of the incident before determining the sequence of events and the role of those involved.
Investigation Continues Into Assault on First-Year Students
Police are collecting witness statements and other evidence to establish the circumstances that led to the alleged assault. Investigators are also verifying whether the incident was directly linked to ragging or resulted from another dispute among the students.
Further action in the case will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation and the evidence collected during the inquiry.
