A young woman who died in a car crash near Kommerahalli in Mandya is at the centre of a police investigation after her family alleged that the incident was staged to resemble a road accident. The complaint accuses three friends of attempting sexual assault, murdering the victim, and subsequently causing the crash to conceal the alleged crime.
Mandya: The death of a young woman in a car crash near Kommerahalli in Mandya district has taken a new turn after her family alleged that the incident was not an accident but a planned murder following an attempted sexual assault. Based on a complaint filed by the victim's mother, police have initiated an investigation into the allegations to determine the exact sequence of events.
According to the complaint, the woman was employed at a fruit shop in Mandya and was staying at a paying guest accommodation in the city. On the day of the incident, she reportedly informed the owner of the PG that she was travelling home. However, investigators have learned that she later travelled with her friends, identified as Ashwini, Vishnu and Shivakumar, to Kommerahalli Hill in a car.
Mandya Car Crash Raises Questions Over Woman's Death
Police said the car reportedly crashed into an electric light pole near Kommerahalli and overturned. The woman died at the scene, while the three other occupants sustained minor injuries.
The victim's family has questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident, stating that they were informed about her death only around 11 pm, several hours after the accident had occurred on Sunday. The delay in informing the family has been cited as one of the reasons for their suspicion.
"The delay in informing the family has raised serious doubts about the circumstances leading to the woman's death," the complaint submitted by the family states.
Family Alleges Murder After Attempted Sexual Assault
In the complaint lodged at the Mandya Rural Police Station on August 3, the victim's mother alleged that her daughter was taken to the location under the pretext of a birthday celebration.
The complaint further alleges that the accused attempted to sexually assault the woman and that she resisted. According to the allegations made by the family, the accused then assaulted her, leading to her death.
The complainant has further alleged that the accused subsequently placed the victim's body in the front seat of the car and deliberately crashed the vehicle into an electric pole in an attempt to portray the incident as a road accident.
"The complaint alleges that the accident was staged to conceal the alleged crime. These allegations are part of the complaint and are under police investigation."
Mandya Police Investigating Allegations in Woman's Death Case
Police have registered the complaint and commenced an investigation into the allegations made by the victim's family. Investigators are examining forensic evidence, witness statements and other material evidence to establish whether the incident was a road accident or whether any criminal offence was committed.
Officials have not announced any conclusions regarding the allegations, and further action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
