Bengaluru UB City hotels face food safety action after officials seize rotten meat, used oil and expired food items during a night raid
Food Safety Department officials conducted a night inspection at five hotels in Bengaluru’s UB City and seized meat, cooking oil, vegetables, mushrooms, fish, cake and other food items. The department said it found food storage violations at some hotel kitchens and is preparing further legal action.
Bengaluru: Food Safety Department officials conducted a night inspection at five hotels in Bengaluru’s UB City and seized food items that included rotten chicken and beef, used cooking oil and food products kept beyond their stated expiry period.
A team of around 15 officials carried out the inspection at Sky Hotel, Royal Chain, Madras Kitchen, Tescon Hotel and Sanchez Hotel. The operation focused on kitchen conditions, food storage and compliance with food safety requirements.
Officials found 45 kg of rotten chicken and beef at Sky Hotel. They also seized 15 litres of used cooking oil and 6 kg of vegetable cutlets. The total quantity of food items seized from the hotel was 51 kg. Following the findings, officials locked and sealed the kitchen at Sky Hotel.
Bengaluru UB City hotels inspected for food safety violations
The inspection also covered Royal Chain Hotel, where officials seized 55 kg of meat. The seized meat included 50 kg of duck meat and 5 kg of fish.
At Madras Kitchen, officials seized 5 kg of green peas, while 5 kg of mushrooms were seized from Tescon Hotel.
Officials also inspected Sanchez Hotel and seized 3 kg of fish, 7 kg of cake, potatoes and other food items.
The seizures formed part of the Food Safety Department’s inspection activity in and around UB City and Brigade Road.
Bengaluru Food safety officials find meat stored without refrigeration
Food Safety Department Commissioner Srinivas said officials found cases where chicken, mutton and fish were not stored under refrigeration as required.
“During inspections around UB City and Brigade Road, officials found that chicken, mutton and fish were not stored properly in some hotels.”
The department is now preparing further action against hotels where officials identified violations of food safety rules.
Food Safety Department prepares legal action
The Food Safety Department is expected to initiate legal proceedings based on the findings recorded during the inspections. The action follows the seizure of food products and observations concerning storage practices in hotel kitchens.
The inspection covered five hotels during the night operation. Officials recorded the food items found during the checks and took action at the premises where violations were identified.
The department’s next steps will include proceedings against hotels found to have breached food safety requirements. The inspection has also brought attention to food storage practices followed in hotel kitchens in the UB City and Brigade Road areas.
