Forest officers investigating an alleged wild boar hunting case were assaulted by suspects, leading to multiple arrests and an ongoing police manhunt

Yadgir: An incident that has raised concerns over the safety of frontline forest personnel, a group of suspected wildlife hunters allegedly assaulted forest department officials who had arrived to arrest them in connection with an illegal hunting case in Karnataka's Yadgir district. The attack reportedly took place in a forest area near Kakkera village in Surpur taluk and has triggered widespread outrage.

The incident came to light after authorities launched action against individuals accused of hunting a wild boar and sharing videos of the act on social media. What began as a routine enforcement operation quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, leaving senior forest officials injured.
“The attack highlights the growing risks faced by forest personnel while enforcing wildlife protection laws in remote and sensitive regions.”
Wildlife Hunting Video Triggered Investigation
According to officials, the accused allegedly hunted a wild boar in the forest and later uploaded videos of the incident on social media platforms. The footage reportedly went viral, drawing the attention of forest authorities and prompting an investigation into the suspected wildlife crime.

Based on the evidence gathered, a forest department team led by Range Forest Officer (RFO) Bhagappagouda, accompanied by forest guards Lal Ahmed and Kashinath Rathod, proceeded to the area to apprehend the suspects.

Forest Officers Allegedly Tied to a Tree and Beaten
Authorities allege that the suspects resisted arrest and launched a brutal attack on the forest officials. The accused reportedly overpowered the officers, tied them to a tree, and assaulted them with sticks.
RFO Bhagappagouda sustained serious injuries in the attack and was admitted to a private hospital in Kalaburagi for treatment. The assault on government officials performing official duties has drawn strong condemnation from various quarters.
The incident has reignited concerns about the challenges faced by forest staff while tackling illegal hunting and wildlife crimes in remote forest zones.

Police Register Case Against 11 Accused
Following the attack, a case was registered at Kodekal Police Station against 11 individuals allegedly involved in the assault. Police launched an extensive operation to identify and apprehend all those connected to the incident.
Investigators have already arrested four key suspects and sent them to judicial custody. Efforts are currently underway to trace and arrest the remaining accused, who are reportedly absconding.
Wildlife Protection and Forest Security in Focus
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by forest officers tasked with protecting wildlife and enforcing conservation laws. Experts believe stronger protection measures and stricter legal consequences are necessary to deter attacks on government personnel working in high-risk environments.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into both the alleged illegal hunting case and the violent assault on forest department staff. More arrests are expected as the probe progresses.
