Rajouri: In a tragic loss for the nation, Lieutenant Bireshwar Goswami of the Indian Army was martyred during an anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Saturday evening. The young officer reportedly sustained critical injuries after accidentally falling into a deep gorge while leading a search operation in the region's treacherous mountainous terrain.
The incident occurred amid an intensified security mission aimed at tracking down terrorists hiding in the dense forests and rugged hills of the border district.
Operation Sherwali Officer Dies During Active Mission
Lieutenant Bireshwar Goswami was part of the ongoing anti-terror campaign known as Operation Sherwali, a coordinated effort involving the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and paramilitary forces.
According to reports, the operation had been underway for nearly two weeks based on intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists in the remote forested areas of Rajouri.
During the operation in the Dorimal region on Saturday evening, the officer reportedly lost his footing amid challenging weather conditions and hazardous terrain, falling into a gorge approximately 30 metres deep.
The accident took place while security personnel were conducting an active search in the difficult mountain landscape.

Fellow soldiers immediately launched a rescue operation and managed to retrieve Lieutenant Goswami from the gorge.
Despite swift evacuation and medical assistance, the officer succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
