Shocking late-night assault in Mundargi taluk’s Doni Tanda leaves six severely injured as police detain accused suspected to be mentally unstable
Gadag: A chilling incident has rocked residents of Doni Tanda in Mundargi taluk of Gadag, where a man allegedly launched a brutal midnight attack on six people sleeping outside their homes, leaving them critically injured. The incident, which occurred around 1 AM, has sparked fear and panic across the locality.
According to reports, the accused, identified as Harjappa Lamani, attacked the victims with a wooden stick (donna) while they were in deep sleep outside their houses. The sudden and violent assault left the victims bleeding profusely, with severe injuries to their heads, eyes, and faces.
Residents Rushed After Hearing Screams
Hearing desperate cries and chaos, nearby residents rushed to the scene and were left shocked by the horrifying sight. The injured were found lying in a pool of blood and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Six Injured, Several in Critical Condition
The victims have been identified as Eggappa Bhajanayak, Shekhappa Nayak, Devakka Nayak, Shanmukhappa Rathod, Jagadish Lamani, and Chavallavva Lamani. Doctors confirmed that several of them are in critical condition, battling serious injuries.
“The victims have sustained severe injuries to vital parts like the head and face. Some are in a critical state,” sources said.
Police Detain Accused, Investigation Underway
The Mundargi Police have registered a case and taken the accused into custody. Authorities are currently probing the motive behind the attack and examining all possible angles.
Mental Health Angle Emerges
District Superintendent of Police Rohan Jagadish stated that preliminary investigation suggests the accused may be suffering from mental illness and was reportedly undergoing treatment. This angle is being closely examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

The brutal nature of the assault has left families devastated, with relatives of the injured breaking down at the hospital.
