72-year-old paralysed woman dies after being pushed from building, police detain son as probe points to mental distress and prolonged caregiving pressure

Bengaluru: In a deeply disturbing incident reported from Rajarajeshwari Nagar, a 72-year-old paralysed woman was allegedly killed by her own son, who is suspected to have thrown her from the terrace of their residence.

The deceased has been identified as Savitramma (72), while the accused, her son Venkatesh (43), has been taken into custody by police.

Elderly Woman Battling Paralysis for Years
According to preliminary investigation, Savitramma had been suffering from paralysis for the past three to four years and was dependent on her son for daily care.

Venkatesh was reportedly her primary caregiver, managing her condition over a prolonged period.

Crime Linked to Mental Distress
Police sources indicate that the accused was allegedly under severe depression, reportedly due to his mother’s prolonged illness and lack of recovery.

Investigators believe this mental strain may have contributed to the crime, though a detailed psychological assessment is yet to be conducted.

Shocking Act Near Ambedkar Park
The incident occurred near Ambedkar Park, where Venkatesh allegedly took his mother to the terrace and pushed her down from the building.

Savitramma died on the spot due to the impact of the fall.

Police Action and Investigation
Officials from the Rajarajeshwari Nagar Police Station rushed to the scene soon after receiving information and secured the accused.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and circumstances leading to the incident.

Rising Concern Over Caregiver Stress
The case has also sparked discussion around mental health challenges faced by caregivers, especially in long-term illness situations.

Experts emphasise the need for support systems, counselling, and medical assistance to prevent such tragic outcomes.
