27-year-old dies after being run over during temple procession in Bengaluru, driver flees as negligence angle emerges

Anekal: In a heartbreaking incident at the Hulimavu fair in Bengaluru, a 27-year-old man who was about to get married lost his life after being run over by a tractor carrying a palanquin during a temple procession.

The deceased, identified as Akshath, a resident of Banashankari, had visited Hulimavu to distribute his wedding invitation cards to relatives and friends. He had decided to stay back to witness the fair celebrations, unaware of the tragedy that awaited him.

Run Over During Palanquin Procession
The incident took place during the night procession organized as part of the Brahmarathotsava of Sri Kodanda Ramaswamy Temple in Hulimavu village. While Akshath was standing and watching the palanquins, a tractor carrying one of them allegedly ran over him.

He was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
“He had come to invite loved ones to his wedding. Within moments, everything changed,” said a local eyewitness.
Negligence Suspected, Driver Absconding
Preliminary reports suggest that the accident occurred due to the driver’s negligence. Following the incident, the tractor driver fled the scene, triggering a police search operation.

The accident falls under the jurisdiction of Hulimavu Traffic Police Station. Bengaluru South Traffic DCP Gopal visited the spot and conducted an inspection.

Temple Authorities Under Criticism
Sources indicate that despite the fatal accident, temple trustees allegedly did not visit the scene immediately, raising questions about accountability and event management during large gatherings.

Separate Accident Leaves Three Injured
In another incident, three persons were seriously injured after a car collided with a bike near Kendanahalli Gate in Chintamani taluk of Chikkaballapur district. The injured Vijay, Doddagauda, and Ambarish have been admitted to Kolar District Hospital for treatment. A case has been registered at Chintamani Rural Police Station.

Rising Concerns Over Festival Safety
The tragic death has once again highlighted the urgent need for stricter safety measures and crowd control during large-scale religious events and processions.

Authorities have initiated further investigation into both incidents.
