58-year-old officer falls near T.M.A. Pai Hospital during ‘Drugs Free Karnataka’ marathon; declared dead on arrival
Udupi: In a tragic incident that cast a shadow over a public fitness initiative, a 58-year-old police officer from the Kundapur Rural Police Station collapsed and died while participating in a 5 km marathon organised by the Udupi District Police on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Nasir Hussain, a Police Sub-Inspector attached to the Kundapur Rural Police Station. He reportedly collapsed near T.M.A. Pai Hospital at Jodukatte while taking part in the run.
The marathon, titled “Hussain 5K Marathon,” was organised by the Udupi District Police under the themes “District Police – Our Police is Our Pride,” “Fitness for All,” and “Drugs Free Karnataka,” aiming to promote physical well-being and awareness against substance abuse.
Collapsed Mid-Run, Declared Dead at Hospital
According to sources, Nasir Hussain suddenly collapsed during the event. Fellow officers and participants immediately rushed him to T.M.A. Pai Hospital for emergency treatment. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
Preliminary reports suggest a suspected cardiac arrest, though official confirmation is awaited.
Long Service Record in Udupi District
Nasir Hussain hailed from Chikkamagaluru district and had served in multiple police stations across Udupi district during his career. He was recently transferred to the Adhikar Police Station following the Shettikatte accident case and later posted to the Kundapur Rural Police Station.
Colleagues described him as a dedicated and disciplined officer who actively participated in departmental activities.
He is survived by his wife and two children. The sudden demise has left the police fraternity in shock, with tributes pouring in from fellow officers and local residents. Further formalities are being carried out as per procedure.
