10 shops inspected in Yelahanka Sub-Division; notices served for non-renewal of trade licenses and poor sanitation standards
Bengaluru: The Animal Husbandry Department of the Bengaluru North City Corporation conducted a special inspection drive targeting poultry and meat shops in the Yelahanka Sub-Division, intensifying its focus on public health and food safety compliance.
The drive, carried out on February 27, covered a total of 10 poultry and meat establishments. Officials verified key regulatory and hygiene parameters to ensure adherence to civic norms and food safety standards.
Key Compliance Areas Examined
During the inspection, authorities scrutinized:
- Validity and renewal status of trade licenses
- Health and hygiene conditions
- Availability and maintenance of cold storage facilities
- Proper methods of meat storage and display
- Waste disposal mechanisms
- Health and safety measures adopted by shop staff
Officials reported that while several establishments complied with regulations, some shops were found operating with expired licenses, inadequate sanitation, and partial adherence to prescribed health standards.
Notices Issued, Legal Action Warned
Notices have been served to shop owners who failed to maintain valid documentation or violated hygiene norms. They have been directed to rectify deficiencies within the stipulated time frame.
Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar urged residents to purchase meat only from licensed and hygienic outlets in the interest of public health.
“All meat shops must strictly comply with cleanliness, health, and food safety regulations. Strict legal action will be taken against violators,” the Commissioner stated.
The inspection was conducted under the supervision of Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. R. Manohar, along with departmental staff including Narayana Reddy and other officials.
Authorities confirmed that similar inspection drives will continue regularly across Yelahanka Sub-Division and other wards under the Bengaluru North City Corporation limits to ensure sustained enforcement.
