The Wall Street Journal report claims large-scale Israeli strikes on IRGC-linked sites as the United Arab Emirates activates air defences against Iranian missiles and drones
Tehran: A major escalation in Middle East tensions has emerged following a report by The Wall Street Journal claiming that Israel has carried out massive air operations involving over 10,000 munitions targeting Iranian security infrastructure. The strikes reportedly focused on thousands of locations associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Basij forces, and internal security networks.
Massive Military Campaign Detailed
According to the report, Israel targeted more than 2,200 sites linked to Iranian security forces, based on detailed target lists and battle-damage assessments reviewed by the publication. The operation allegedly began following the killing of Ali Khamenei, a development that has not been independently confirmed by multiple official sources.
The campaign reportedly aimed to disrupt Iran’s internal control mechanisms, with strikes extending from official headquarters to unconventional hideouts such as sports stadiums and under-bridge shelters.
High Casualties Reported
Israeli assessments cited in the report suggest that thousands of personnel may have been killed or injured. One of the most significant strikes allegedly targeted Azadi Stadium in Tehran, where hundreds of members of the Basij and IRGC forces were reportedly killed.
“Mossad agents also phoned commanders by name, warning them to side with the people or share Khamenei’s fate,” the report stated, indicating psychological operations accompanying military action.
Targeting Strategy and Objectives
The report suggests that the strikes were part of a broader effort to demonstrate the vulnerability of Iran’s enforcement apparatus and weaken its ability to maintain internal order.
However, these claims remain unverified by independent international agencies, and there has been no official confirmation from either Israel or Iran regarding the scale of the operation.
UAE Activates Air Defenses
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defense confirmed that its air defense systems were actively responding to incoming ballistic missiles and drones from Iran.
Authorities stated that loud sounds heard across the UAE were due to successful interceptions carried out by air defense systems and fighter jets, indicating a widening regional impact of the conflict.
Rising Regional Tensions
The developments point toward a potential broader conflict in the Middle East, with multiple nations now on high alert. Security experts warn that continued escalation could destabilize the region further.
Awaiting Official Confirmation
While the report has triggered global attention, officials and analysts stress the need for verified confirmations as the situation continues to evolve rapidly.
