Police detain accused son after fatal assault in Civil Lines area; victim declared dead at hospital
Meerut: A shocking incident was reported from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, where a man allegedly killed his father during a drunken argument and later injured himself. The incident occurred in the Civil Lines area late at night on Saturday, police said.
Drunken Argument Turns Violent
According to police sources, the father and son were reportedly consuming alcohol together when an argument broke out between them. The verbal dispute quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
During the fight, the accused allegedly attacked his father with a brick, repeatedly striking him on the head and body, causing severe injuries.
Victim Identified as Rajesh
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh, originally from Motihari in Bihar. Police said he had been living in Meerut for nearly 20 years with his elder son, Aman.
Both father and son were reportedly engaged in the scrap business and operated two municipal shops in the Jail Chungi area of the city.
Family Lives in Bihar
Police said Rajesh’s wife Anita and his other children, son Ankit and daughters Khushi and Julie, currently live in Bihar.
Officials also stated that both Rajesh and Aman were known to have alcohol addiction, which frequently led to disputes between them.
Police Action and Investigation
Local residents informed police after hearing the violent altercation. A team from the Civil Lines Police Station rushed to the spot and took the accused Aman into custody.
Rajesh was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead due to the severe injuries.
“Police received information about the incident around 12:30 a.m. After consuming alcohol, a fight broke out between father and son near Jail Chungi, during which the accused attacked his father,” said Ayush Vikram Singh.
The accused has been detained, and legal proceedings are underway. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while police continue further investigation into the case.
