Congress leader G.T. Satyanarayana Tumuri urges strict action against teachers after an alleged assault on a student in the Sagar taluk school

Shivamogga: A disturbing incident has surfaced from Shivamogga district, where a Class 7 student was allegedly assaulted by teachers at a government school in Sagar taluk. The incident reportedly occurred at the Shedthikere Government Higher Primary School, triggering outrage among locals and activists.

Social activist and G.T. Satyanarayana Tumuri has demanded that a criminal case be registered against the teachers involved, calling the incident inhuman and unacceptable.

Allegations Against Teachers and Headmaster
According to reports, the victim student, identified as Sushrutha, was allegedly beaten by teachers, including Pramod Sannakki, Murthy B., and headmaster Ramesh Narayan.
Speaking to the media, Satyanarayana strongly condemned the incident and said that strict legal action must be taken against the teachers responsible for the assault.
Demand for Criminal Charges
Tumuri specifically demanded that a criminal case be filed against teacher Pramod Sannakki, who is accused of physically assaulting the student. He also urged authorities to take appropriate action against the other teachers and the headmaster involved.
He said disciplinary action alone would not be sufficient and insisted that the accused must face legal proceedings under criminal law.
Complaint Submitted to Police
Tumuri stated that he had met the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Sagar and provided detailed information regarding the incident. He urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action against those responsible.

Questions Raised Over Education Officials’ Response
The activist also expressed dissatisfaction with the response of the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Sagar, Sadananda Swamy. According to him, despite four days passing since the incident, the official had not visited the injured student to check on their condition, raising concerns that attempts might be made to suppress the case.
He further alleged that although four individuals were reportedly involved in the assault, the BEO had recommended action only against one teacher, which he described as unacceptable.
Past Complaints Against Teacher
Satyanarayana claimed that teacher Pramod Sannakki had previously been involved in four similar incidents, which were allegedly ignored or suppressed. In light of this, he demanded immediate suspension and criminal action against all those responsible.

Call for Probe by Child Rights Commission
He also urged the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights to take suo motu cognisance of the incident and conduct an independent inquiry.

Satyanarayana said efforts are also being made to bring the matter to the attention of Madhu Bangarappa, the state’s Education Minister, expressing hope that the government would take strict action based on media reports.
