Amruthahalli police arrest long-time driver who allegedly pawned and sold gold ornaments worth Rs13 lakh entrusted to him by employer’s family

Bengaluru: A shocking case of breach of trust and theft has come to light in Amruthahalli, where a car driver allegedly stole and sold gold ornaments worth Rs. 13 lakh from his employer’s house after working with the family for nearly a decade.

Police officials confirmed that the accused driver, identified as Abhilash, has been arrested by the Amruthahalli police and sent to judicial custody following an investigation into the theft.

Driver Betrays Employer’s Trust
According to the police investigation, the accused had been working as a car driver for the family of Prateek and his wife Bhuvana for nearly ten years. Over time, the driver had gained the family’s confidence and was treated almost like a member of the household.

However, authorities say the accused misused that trust to carry out the theft.

Police said that gold ornaments worth approximately Rs13 lakh, which had been entrusted to him by the family, were later found to have been illegally redeemed and sold by the driver.

How the Fraud Came to Light
The incident reportedly began when the family faced an emergency and handed over gold ornaments to the driver to pawn at a jewellery loan shop.

After some time, when the family decided to redeem the pledged gold, they visited the pawn shop expecting to collect their ornaments.

However, the shop staff informed them that the driver had already redeemed the gold and taken it away earlier, raising immediate suspicion.
This revelation prompted the family to verify their remaining valuables at home, during which they discovered additional gold items missing from the house.
Investigators believe that the accused had been stealing small quantities of gold from the house over time and later selling them for profit.

Police Investigation and Arrest
Following the complaint filed by the family, Amruthahalli Police Station registered a case and launched an investigation.
Police traced the suspect and eventually arrested the accused driver Abhilash, who is now lodged in jail while further investigation continues.
Officials are also examining where the stolen gold was sold and whether any receivers were involved in the transaction.

Growing Concerns Over Domestic Worker Verification
The case has sparked renewed concerns among residents in Bengaluru regarding background checks and trust placed in domestic employees.

Incidents like these often create a climate of suspicion, making homeowners increasingly cautious when hiring drivers, housekeepers, and other domestic staff.
Police have advised citizens to maintain proper documentation, conduct background verification, and avoid handing over valuables without adequate safeguards.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather more details about the extent of the theft and the disposal of the stolen gold ornaments.
