Father attacked with bat and wooden poles in front of children; two accused arrested, police launch investigation
Bengaluru: A shocking murder has been reported in Bengaluru, where a mechanic was allegedly beaten to death following a dispute related to a “roll call” demand on land belonging to the Karnataka State Waqf Board. The victim, identified as Rashid, was reportedly attacked brutally by a group of miscreants in front of his children.
Garage Run on Waqf Board Land for Decades
According to preliminary information, Rashid’s family had been running a garage on Bada Makhan Siddiah Road in Wilson Garden for nearly 30 years. Sources say the family had been operating the garage with permission from the Waqf Board, and Rashid had continued the work started by his father.
Dispute Over ‘Roll Call’ Money Demand
The conflict reportedly began when Rashid planned to install a mould structure for his garage after obtaining permission from the Waqf Board. At this stage, a local gang allegedly demanded money as “roll call”.
Initially, the group demanded Rs15,000, but when Rashid refused to pay, the amount was reportedly increased to Rs50,000, leading to a heated confrontation.
Five Men Allegedly Attacked the Victim
Police sources say that around five accused persons allegedly assaulted Rashid on Saturday evening. The attackers reportedly used a cricket bat and wooden construction poles to assault him.
Due to the severe injuries sustained in the attack, Rashid collapsed at the spot and died, according to initial reports.
Attack Reportedly Occurred in Front of Children
Witnesses said Rashid’s two children were present at the location during the assault. The attackers allegedly carried out the violent attack despite the children being nearby, leaving local residents shocked.
Police Deployment and Investigation Underway
Following the incident, Central Division DCP Akshay Machindra visited the crime scene and conducted an inspection. Local residents gathered at the location, prompting authorities to deploy a Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) unit as a precautionary measure.
Police from Wilson Garden Police Station have also tightened security in the area.
Two Accused Arrested
Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused.
Speaking to the media, DCP Akshay Machindra confirmed that an MLC report has been received from the hospital, and a case has been registered. He stated that Rashid was working as a mechanic at the location and that the exact motive behind the incident will be determined after a detailed investigation.
