Sullia court imposes Rs3,000 fine and 15 days of community service for repeated traffic rule violations
Dakshina Kannada: In an unusual move aimed at promoting road safety awareness, a court in Dakshina Kannada district has ordered a traffic rule violator to spread awareness about traffic regulations in public places instead of imposing only a financial penalty.
The accused, identified as Rakshith G, a resident of Sullia, had repeatedly violated traffic rules in the Sullia town area.
Cases Registered Under Motor Vehicles Act
According to police, three separate cases had been registered against him at the Sullia Police Station under sections 119 read with 177, 184 and 194(C) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Following the investigation, Police Sub-Inspector Santosh B.P. filed the charge sheet before the Sullia SCJ and JMFC Court.
Court Orders Fine and Community Service
After hearing the case, the court imposed a Rs3,000 fine in two cases. In addition, the court directed the accused to perform community service for 15 days, five days for each of the three cases.
As per the order, Rakshith must stand at major junctions in Sullia town from March 15 to March 29, holding placards and informing the public about the importance of following traffic rules.
Driving Licence Suspended
The court also ordered the suspension of his driving licence for three months.
Police officials said the punishment aims not only to penalise violators but also to create awareness among the public about road safety and traffic regulations.
Following the court’s order, the youth has already begun standing at busy junctions in Sullia to educate people about traffic rules and responsible driving.
