Car loses control at 120 km/h while recording Instagram reel in Ahmedabad; two college students die, one critically injured

Ahmedabad: In a tragic incident highlighting the dangers of reckless driving for social media content, two youths lost their lives after a car they were travelling in crashed while filming an Instagram Reel in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The car was reportedly being driven at a speed of nearly 120 km per hour when the driver lost control, leading to a fatal accident.

Accident Occurred While Filming Reel
According to police reports, the youths were driving at high speed while recording a video on their mobile phone for Instagram Reels. Due to excessive speed, the driver lost control over the steering wheel, causing the car to ram into a roadside divider and overturn.

The impact of the crash was so severe that two occupants died on the spot, while another youth travelling in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Victims Identified as College Students
Authorities said the deceased have been identified as local college students from the Ahmedabad region. Police are currently verifying their identities and contacting their families.

Mobile Video Becomes Key Evidence
The mobile phone used to record the reel has become crucial evidence in the investigation. Police confirmed that the video recorded moments before the accident clearly shows the car’s speedometer crossing 120 km/h, along with the occupants shouting and cheering during the drive.
Officials said the footage will help investigators determine the exact sequence of events leading to the crash.
Rising Danger of Social Media Stunts
Police have expressed concern over the growing trend of youngsters performing dangerous stunts for social media popularity. Authorities warned that attempting risky acts for likes and views can lead to fatal consequences.
“Using mobile phones while driving is illegal and extremely dangerous. A moment of distraction can result in irreversible tragedy,” police officials said while urging people to follow road safety rules.
Strict Warning from Authorities
Police also reminded motorists that using a mobile phone while driving and overspeeding are punishable offences under traffic laws. Drivers have been urged to respect speed limits and avoid distractions while on the road to prevent such tragedies.
