22-Year-Old UC Berkeley Postgraduate Missing Since February 9; Indian Mission in San Francisco Assures Full Support to Family
Tumakuru: In a tragic development, 22-year-old Saketh Sreenivasaiah from Tumakuru, Karnataka, who had been missing in the United States since February 9, has been found dead in Lake Anza near the Berkeley Hills, local authorities confirmed.
Saketh, a postgraduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, was last seen near a lake in Tilden Regional Park, California. His body was recovered from Lake Anza following a search operation by local police.
Indian Consulate Confirms Recovery of Body
The Consulate General of India, San Francisco confirmed the development in an official post on X.
“The Consulate deeply regrets to inform that local police have confirmed the recovery of the body of the missing Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this profoundly difficult time.”
The consulate further stated that it is in direct contact with Saketh’s family and is extending all necessary assistance.
Mission Assures Repatriation Support
According to the statement, consular officials are coordinating with local authorities in California to complete required legal formalities and arrange for the repatriation of Saketh’s mortal remains to India.
“Our consular officers are in direct contact with the family and will support them with all required formalities and services,” the mission added.
The circumstances surrounding Saketh’s death are yet to be officially detailed by local authorities. Further updates are awaited as investigations continue.
