Blast at Chowdeshwari Layout Destroys Walls of Residence; Police Probe Suspected Gas Leak Incident
Bengaluru: A powerful explosion triggered by a suspected gas leak tore through a house in Chowdeshwari Layout in Yelahanka on Saturday morning, leaving a newlywed couple seriously injured and causing extensive structural damage.
The blast occurred around 6 am in the residential locality under the jurisdiction of the Yelahanka Police Station. According to preliminary investigations, the explosion is believed to have taken place when the occupants attempted to switch on the gas stove or turned on the lights inside the house.
Walls Collapse Under Impact of Explosion
The intensity of the explosion was so severe that the walls of the house were completely shattered. Residents in the surrounding area reported hearing a loud blast, following which locals rushed to the spot to assist the injured couple.
The victims have been identified as Krishnamma and her husband Raju, both aged 25, natives of Bagepalli. Krishnamma sustained serious injuries in the explosion, while Raju also suffered significant injuries. Both were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their current medical condition is yet to be officially disclosed.
Police Launch Investigation into Gas Leak
Police personnel from the Yelahanka Police Station reached the scene soon after receiving information and initiated a detailed inspection. Officials are examining whether a domestic LPG leak accumulated inside the house before the ignition source triggered the explosion.
Authorities stated that the exact cause of the blast and the extent of property damage will be determined after a technical assessment. Further investigation is underway.
The incident has once again raised concerns about domestic gas safety measures in residential areas across Bengaluru.
