Arrested from Lucknow After Going Missing, Accused Remanded to Seven Days in Jail by Barabanki Court

Lucknow: National spokesperson of the Samajwadi Party, Manoj Yadav, has been arrested in connection with a rape, assault, harassment, and SC/ST Act case registered in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district. He was produced before a local court on Friday and remanded to seven days of judicial custody.

The arrest was carried out around 10:30 am after Yadav reportedly went missing from Gomati Nagar in Lucknow following the allegations. He was presented before Additional District Judge Nitish Rai under heavy police security arrangements.

FIR Registered at Safdargunj Police Station

According to officials at Safdargunj Police Station, an FIR was lodged on February 11 based on a complaint filed by a Scheduled Caste woman from Bhagalepurwa village.

The complaint alleges that Yadav committed rape, physical assault and harassment, and also violated provisions under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Police confirmed that relevant sections under the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST Act have been invoked in the case.

Station House Officer Amar Chaurasia stated that the matter is under active investigation and further legal proceedings will follow based on evidence collected.

Threat Allegations Against Complainant’s Son

In her statement, the complainant further alleged that her son Virendra, who works as a driver in Lucknow, was targeted after she decided to approach the police. She claimed that Yadav had repeatedly assaulted her son and issued death threats in an attempt to silence the family.

Authorities have not issued any official statement from the accused’s side as of now. Police officials said that further interrogation and evidence verification will be conducted during judicial custody.

The development has sparked political reactions in the state, while the investigation continues under close legal scrutiny.
