Incident at Ambedkar Colony triggers public panic as police confirm the youth was travelling from Assam to Coimbatore; investigation underway, says Renigunta Inspector
Tirupathi: Panic gripped residents near Ambedkar Circle in Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh after a young man allegedly injured himself in a public place on Friday, police said. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Renigunta police limits, drawing immediate attention from commuters and local residents in the busy area.
Renigunta Inspector Jayachandra said the youth was travelling from Assam to Coimbatore but missed his scheduled train. After failing to continue his journey, he reportedly reached Ambedkar Colony and suddenly injured himself on the road, causing shock among bystanders.
“The youth was travelling from Assam to Coimbatore but missed his train. He later came onto the road in Ambedkar Colony and suddenly attacked himself in the middle of the road. Frightened locals ran from the spot after witnessing the incident,” Inspector Jayachandra said.
Immediate Police Response
Police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information. The injured youth had collapsed on the road and was promptly shifted to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Officials confirmed that timely medical intervention helped stabilise the situation and prevent further escalation.
Background and Behavioural History
Following the incident, police contacted the youth’s close associates to ascertain further details. According to the inspector, they revealed that the individual has a history of abnormal behaviour and had exhibited similar actions in the past.
“His close associates were informed, and they stated that he sometimes behaves abnormally and had acted similarly earlier. He was subsequently taken back by his associates,” the inspector added.
Police have initiated a detailed inquiry to understand the circumstances leading to the incident and to verify the youth’s travel history and mental health background. Further details are awaited as authorities continue their assessment.
