Viral censor certificate actually belongs to the TV version of the original film; sequel ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ is yet to receive certification
Mumbai: A viral censor certificate claiming to reveal the runtime and rating of Ranveer Singh’s upcoming sequel ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ has sparked widespread confusion online. However, reports clarify that the circulating document is not linked to the sequel but to the television broadcast version of the original film.
According to media reports, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certificate being shared on social platforms pertains to the TV premiere of ‘Dhurandhar’, the first instalment released in December 2025, and not to the much-anticipated sequel.
Certification Mix-Up Explained
The viral certificate indicates a U/A 16+ rating and a specific runtime, leading many fans to believe that the sequel’s censor details had been leaked. However, the report states that the document visible on the CBFC website refers to an edited television version of the original film.
The first film, ‘Dhurandhar,’ was initially certified with an A rating and a runtime of 214 minutes. Following objections from certain community groups, the makers implemented edits, and the revised theatrical version carried a runtime of 208 minutes, as reflected in CBFC records.
For television broadcast, the film was further trimmed, certain expletives were muted, and the rating was modified to suit TV standards. The certificate currently circulating online applies to that television cut, not to ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge.’
Sequel Yet to Be Submitted for Certification
Sources indicate that ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ is still under production, with filming continuing into February. The sequel has not yet been submitted to the CBFC for certification ahead of its scheduled March 19 release.
“The viral certificate does not reflect the sequel’s final runtime or rating. Official certification details will be available only after submission to the board,” a source familiar with the process stated.
Earlier, the teaser of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ had received an A certificate for theatrical exhibition. However, that approval was limited strictly to the promotional clip and does not indicate the rating of the full-length feature film.
Official Details Awaited
With anticipation building around the sequel, fans are advised to rely on official announcements regarding certification, runtime, and release details. Industry insiders expect confirmed information to emerge closer to the theatrical release date.
