Cuttack: A private school bus driver has been arrested for allegedly attempting to sexually assault two minor girl students in Cuttack, in a case that has sparked serious concerns over student safety during school transportation, police officials confirmed on Thursday.
Police Action and Immediate Arrest
According to the Cuttack City Police, the accused was engaged by a private educational institution to transport students in areas falling under the Cantonment police station limits. The alleged incident took place inside the school bus on Tuesday, prompting swift intervention after the matter came to light.
Details of the Accused
The arrested individual is a 55-year-old resident of Jagatsinghpur district, police said. Following a preliminary inquiry, he was taken into custody and booked under Section 6 of the POCSO Act along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with serious sexual offences against minors.
“We acted immediately after receiving information. The safety of children is non-negotiable, and strict legal action has been initiated,” a senior police officer stated.
Investigation Underway
Authorities confirmed that further investigation is ongoing, including verification of the school’s transport safety protocols and the accused’s background. Officials are also examining whether any lapses in monitoring or supervision contributed to the incident.
