Helmet-clad assailants execute daylight murder in Amarjyothi Layout; police probe possible link to 2023 DJ Halli Kapil case
Bengaluru: In a chilling incident reported from Amarjyothi Layout, a rowdy-sheeter identified as Pawan Kumar was brutally murdered with sharp weapons outside his residence, even as his helpless mother watched in horror. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Thanisandra Police Station.
Police officials confirmed that Pawan Kumar had a criminal background and was previously jailed in connection with the DJ Halli Kapil murder case. After his release, his parents had reportedly encouraged him to reform, even helping him start a bakery business. However, his past appears to have caught up with him violently and fatally.
Revenge Killing Angle Under Probe
Investigators suspect the murder could be a revenge attack linked to the Kapil murder that took place three years ago, though officials have stated that it is too early to conclusively establish motive. According to preliminary findings, six attackers arrived on three motorcycles, all wearing helmets to conceal their identities.
Attack Executed Outside Home
Police sources said that Pawan Kumar was followed by the assailants as he returned home. The moment he stopped his vehicle near his house, the attackers lunged at him from behind and repeatedly struck him with deadly weapons. His mother attempted to intervene and save her son, but the attackers fled the scene after ensuring he was fatally injured.
Pattern Similar to 2023 DJ Halli Murder
In the Kapil murder case dated July 11, 2023, six attackers had similarly arrived wearing helmets and carried out the killing. Pawan Kumar was named Accused No. 5 (A5) in that case. Police now believe the identical modus operandi strengthens suspicions of a planned revenge killing. Kapil’s brother Prem and others are among those under suspicion. According to sources, Pawan had earlier told his mother that Prem was allegedly tracking his movements.
Police React
Addressing the media, Mithun Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Northeast Division, said:
“The victim was followed by around five individuals. As soon as he stopped near his house, he was attacked from behind. We have identified the suspects. However, it would be premature to confirm this as a revenge killing at this stage. The victim did have a criminal history, and we are actively searching for the accused.”
The gruesome murder has triggered panic and anxiety among residents of the locality. Multiple police teams have been deployed, and further investigation is underway to trace and arrest those responsible.
