With 40 MLAs backing him, Partha Pawar is poised to secure a six-year Rajya Sabha term; party leaders approve the decision unanimously
Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has nominated Partha Pawar, son of late NCP leader Ajit Pawar, for a Rajya Sabha seat, following the tragic demise of his father in a plane crash. The announcement was made by NCP working president Praful Patel.
Partha Pawar, 35, is expected to secure his six-year term comfortably in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for March 16, as the party currently holds 40 MLAs, exceeding the 37 needed to win. The nomination comes shortly after Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar was elected as the party’s national president.
Political Background and Past Elections
Partha Pawar, who has shown a keen interest in politics, previously contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Maval constituency. He lost to Shiv Sena candidate Sriranga Barne by over 2 lakh votes. Despite the defeat, he has remained active within party ranks and is now set to enter the Upper House of Parliament.
Party Leaders Endorse Decision
Praful Patel stated that the decision to field Partha Pawar was taken unanimously by senior party leaders, including Chhagan Bhujbal, Sunil Tatkare, Hasan Mushrif, Dhananjay Munde, and Dilip Walse Patil, according to an official source.
