Central Crime Branch seizes country-made firearm and ammunition; probe on to trace source and possible networkBengaluru: In a major crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a man for allegedly smuggling a country-made pistol and 50 live bullets into Bengaluru from Bhopal.
The accused has been identified as Syed Masood, a resident within the Siddapur police station limits. Acting on credible information, CCB officials apprehended him and recovered one country-made pistol along with 50 rounds of live ammunition from his possession.
Weapon Sourced from Madhya Pradesh
Preliminary investigation suggests that the firearm was procured from a person based in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Police sources said Syed Masood, who was reportedly engaged in sheep trade, had allegedly arranged for the illegal purchase and transportation of the weapon into Karnataka.
The accused has been booked under relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Officials confirmed that further legal proceedings are underway.
Probe into Motive and Network
Investigators are now focusing on determining the purpose behind the illegal acquisition of the firearm. Authorities are also probing whether the accused was part of a larger interstate arms supply network.
Senior CCB officials stated that efforts are being made to trace the source of the weapon and identify others who may have facilitated the smuggling operation.
The arrest highlights ongoing concerns over the movement of illegal firearms across state borders and the need for coordinated enforcement to curb such activities.
